Fees and Practical Information

Appointment Fees

Navigating Medicare rebates and session fees can feel confusing when engaging with a private psychologist. I’ve included some information below to help clarify the process, and you’re very welcome to get in touch if you have any questions.

  • The fee for a standard 50-minute consultation at Sielu Psychology is $260 per session.

  • You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate to help reduce the out-of-pocket cost of psychology appointments if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Under the Australian Government’s Better Access initiative, eligible clients can claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year.

For sessions with a Clinical Psychologist, the current Medicare rebate is approximately $145.25 per session. This rebate is paid directly to you by Medicare and will reduce your out-of-pocket cost for each appointment.

(Please note: rebate amounts may change over time — the figure above is current as of the latest Medicare schedule.)

    How to access your rebate

To be eligible for the Medicare rebate:

    1. Book an appointment with your GP (or psychiatrist/paediatrician) and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan and referral for psychology services. This must be done before your first psychology session to claim the rebate.

    2. Bring or upload a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan and referral to your first appointment at Sielu Psychology.

    3. After your session, you can claim your rebate through Medicare — either online via your myGov account, through the Express Plus Medicare app, or by submitting a claim in person or by mail.

Medicare typically provides rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year under this scheme.

  • If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim a rebate for psychology sessions, depending on your level of cover.

    Please note:

    • You cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health insurance rebate for the same session

    • Claims through private health insurance are typically made directly by you with your insurer

    • Rebate amounts vary between funds and policies, so it’s best to check directly with your provider

If you’re planning to use private health insurance, you’re welcome to let me know and I can ensure your invoice includes the details you need to make a claim.

  • If you attend without a Mental Health Care Plan and referral, sessions are self-funded.

Once your Medicare-rebated sessions are used, you’re welcome to continue with private (non-rebated) sessions.

If you’re unsure which option applies to you, feel free to get in touch before booking.
